The Milwaukee downtown hotel boom continues, even with a pandemic cutting revenue and canceling events. Construction is underway on Kinn MKE Guesthouse, a 32-room hotel being created in the four-story office building at 602-606 N. Broadway. Charles Bailey is developing the hotel, a scaled-up version of his successful Kinn Guesthouse in Bay View. That eight-room hotel, with restaurant Sorella on the first floor, is located at 2535 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. Bailey, who operates Joca Properties, is adding a fifth floor to the building that will contain a bar and rooftop deck that will function as an event venue. He previously proposed adding five floors, and then just three, but failed to persuade members of the Historic Preservation Commission. The first floor will

Plats and Parcels: Steam Tunnel Flood Repairs Will Cost Over $60 Million

Plus: Conagra closing Milwaukee plant and logistics company moving to Bay View. By Jeramey Jannene - Jan 31st, 2021 06:27 pm //end headline wrapper ?>The Public Service Building in August 2020. Photo by Jeramey Jannene. Most downtown workers will never know that the system they rely on to heat their workplace flooded in 2020. But they will pay for at least some of the over $60 million in damage. On May 18, the We Energies steam tunnel system, which delivers steam heat from the Valley Power Plant to a number of downtown buildings, flooded following a significant rainstorm. Millions of gallons of water poured into the tunnel system. The surge overwhelmed pumps, cut off steam access to half of the system’s 400 customers and damaged buildings. By chance, the building that suffered the most damage was We Energies’ own headquarters, the Public Service Building at 231 W. Michigan St.

Eyes on Milwaukee: Third Ward Building Could Become Hotel

Wimmer Communities would convert five-story building, a former shoe polish factory. By Jeramey Jannene - Jan 25th, 2021 04:29 pm //end headline wrapper ?>125-129 N. Water St. Photo by Jeramey Jannene. The Historic Third Ward could land a second hotel under a proposal from Wimmer Communities. A request pending before the Historic Third Ward Architectural Review Board calls for the five-story building at 125-129 N. Water St. to be converted to a hotel. No additional details on the project were available. The project is scheduled to be reviewed on Wednesday. The building, constructed in 1892 according to the Wisconsin Historical Society, was the long-time home of the Harri Hoffman Company. The company, known for its Hoffco Shoe Polish, was based at the building since 1963. The structure was originally built for a predecessor firm of Laacke & Joys.
