In his office, Chuck Schumer said Saturday the Senate would accommodate a motion from one of the impeachment lawyers of former President to postpone Trump s impeachment trial on the Sabbath day. We respect their request and of course will accommodate it. Conversations with the relevant parties about the structure of the trial continue, said Justin Goodman, the spokesman for Chuck Schumer.
Lawyer David Schoen requested that the trial, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, be temporarily put on hold if it will not be finished on Friday at 5:24 pm ET by the beginning of the Sabbath reconvene Sunday. An agreement between senators to hold the trial on a Sunday would need to be reached.

Yang Jiechi, China s top diplomat, in his first phone call to the new U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, once again blamed Washington for plunging bilateral relations to their lowest point in decades, dismissing foreign criticism of Beijing s Xinjiang and Hong Kong policies.
From the statement released by the Chinese Foreign Office, Yang Jiechi, the top foreign policy advisor to Xi Jinping, told Blinken during their Friday call that the U.S. should correct recent mistakes, and work with China to promote the healthy and stable development of China-US relations by upholding the spirit of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation,
The step has reflected a distinct change in Washington's approach to the conflict and a renewed focus to find a diplomatic solution to the very long war.
