Lansing schools OK $185,000-a-year contract for new superintendent

LANSING Lansing School District officially hired its next superintendent, ending a search that weathered the COVID-19 pandemic and spanned more than 18 months.
The Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday night to approve a three-year contract paying $185,000 annually to Benjamin Shuldiner, an outside hire tasked with leading the district out of a historically challenging year.
Shuldiner, 44, a dean’s fellow at Hunter College in New York City and a former high school principal, was picked over Jessica Benavides, a 23-year veteran of the district, on March 20. Benavides continues to work as the district s executive director of improvement and innovation. ....

Three finalists selected for Lansing superintendent

LANSING Two Lansing School District administrators and a dean s fellow from a New York college will advance to second interviews for the district s superintendent job.
Five candidates interviewed with the Board of Education on Tuesday and Wednesday. Trustees named the Lansing School District Deputy Superintendent Delsa Chapman; Jessica Benavides, executive director of improvement and innovation at Lansing School District; and Benjamin Shuldiner, dean’s fellow at Hunter College in New York and a former high school principal, as finalists.
The finalists will appear for their second interviews on March 18. They also will appear for three Zoom meetings next week where teachers and the public can learn more about the candidates and ask questions. The dates and times of the three meetings have not yet been set. ....
