And while there are encouraging signs that more americans are getting vaccinated against coronavirus, there is also worrying new data out today showing how great the threat still is. The highly contagious delta variant now makes up more than 93% of all new cases in the united states. That s according to the cdc. The number of americans dying from covid every day is up 42% from just last week. And hospitalizations are three times higher than one month ago. And we know vaccines are the best way to stop the spread. But combating misinformation about the vaccines is still one of the greatest challenges for health officials. And the new poll out today shows that among unvaccinated americans, 53% think getting the shot is a bigger risk to their health than catching covid, 53%. Asking all americans to wear masks when vaccinated and unvaccinated people are together indoors or at public places. Regardless of whether you have the shot, the white house press about it earlier today. A few weeks ago, the president said we were closer than ever to declaring our independence from a deadly virus. Is that still the case if you guys are now reportedly considering asking vaccinated people to wear masks again. Well, first of all, the cdc director, who oversees decisions along those lines and all of our public health decisions, made clear that that was not a decision that had been made just a few hours ago. So we ll continue to communicate, convey what the actor of public health guidelines is. Nothing has changed about that. And of course we have ongoing discussions about how to keep themen people safe. Socalled misinformation is literally killing people. Watch this. What s your message to platforms like facebook? they are killing people. The only pandemic we have is when you are unvaccinated and they are killing people. Jason: naturally, in order to battle this insidious threat that is killing people, the white house just proudly announced a plan to censor social media accounts. That it doesn t like. According to jen psaki, the administration is closely monitoring the internet. Some would call that spying and is now flagging various facebook accounts that it wants band from the platform. If this seems like a tyrannical attempt to control the free flow of information, that s because it is but the biden administration is just trying to protect you from yourself. Watch. Transmission rates. Here is the director. In rare occasions, some vaccinated people infected with the delta variant after vaccination may be contagious and spread the virus to others. In areas with substantial and high transmission, the cdc recommends fully vaccinated people wear masks in public indoor settings to help prevent the spread of the delta variant and protect others. This includes schools. Dana: that includes schools, the white house responding to the new guidance saying it s another stop on our journey to defeating this virus.
