Montgomery County is expanding and upgrading its network of trails, to meet growing demand during the pandemic. The Schuylkill River Trail will see a new connector to Route 422 near Pottstown, which will essentially help build the link from Chester County all the way south to Philadelphia.
“Whenever we are doing trail planning work, we always think about where the trails can go into Bucks or into Philadelphia or into Chester counties, because this network is well beyond Montgomery County’s boundary. So it’s really a regional effort to build out these trails,” said Bill Hartman, section chief of trails and open space planning for the Montgomery County Planning Commission.

WILLIAMSPORT-In an effort to further promote safe walking habits, the Lycoming County chapter of Safe Kids Pennsylvania donated 40 copies of “Clifford Takes a Walk” to Williamsport Area School District kindergarten classrooms and primary school libraries today.
Each classroom and library across the district will receive two copies of the children’s book that teaches the rules of pedestrian safety through Norman Bridwell’s famous Clifford the Big Red Dog and his kid companion, Emily Elizabeth.

This annual family-friendly program allows participants to track their visits to select Montgomery County trails and earn an award for completing visits to five, 10, or 15 participating trails.
Last year, the Montco Trail Challenge saw more than 1,600 participants ranging in age from 2 months old to 79 years old. The program draws people from the surrounding region representing Montgomery, Bucks, Berks, Chester, Philadelphia and Delaware cCounties.

âWe are thrilled to see the Montco Trail Challenge back for another season,â said Valerie A. Arkoosh, chairwoman of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. âThis program gives families something fun, healthy and free to do right in their community.â
