Dr. James Bowen was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Support Services following approval by the Barrow County Board of Education during its April meeting.
Laura Minish, a former school teacher in Winder and volunteer with the school system in Athens, was recently honored with proclamations from the mayors of both cities.
Minish, who spent 30 years in education, was recognized for her time in education as Winder Mayor David Maynard and Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz proclaimed May 4 as “Laura Minish Day.”
Minish began her career as a high school history teacher in 1977 at Winder-Barrow High School, and for the last 14 years was a history teacher at Haymon Morris Middle School.
She lived in Athens and was a volunteer at local.schools, including Alps Road Elementary, Cleveland Road Elementary and Clarke Central High School, involved as as a parent volunteer, in fundraising events, marching band boosters and as a coordinator for the geography bee.
