The Brighton skyline THE council has taken much longer to bring its empty homes back into use over the past year and blamed the coronavirus. The average number of days that council houses and flats stood empty between tenants leaving and new ones arriving increased to 135 days from 43 days, according to a new report. More than 200 council properties changed hands in the year to the end of March – and almost 450 in the 2019-20 financial year. The issue was raised by residents’ representatives at the Brighton and Hove City Council housing management panels that were held this week. Roy Crowhurst, who chairs the residents’ association for Woods House, in Sackville Road, Hove, a council block for over-55, was one those to speak out.

Neighbours said that the current chaos would get worse along the A270 Old Shoreham Road, with plans to stop traffic turning right into Stapley Road. It would also force more people driving to the Knoll Estate, which includes a business centre, to take longer routes using Hangleton Road, Holmes Avenue, Nevill Road and Nevill Avenue. The latest proposals also involve closing or restricting other junctions, creating new crossings and extending the Old Shoreham Road cycle lane to the boundary of Portslade and Southwick.

A relative in that road passed one on to me. I would strongly advise all residents of Knoll Estate to obtain a copy as they have not been sent one. The effects on the estate are horrendous. There would be no right turn out of Stapley Road into the Old Shoreham Road, Also no right turn into Stapley Road from Old Shoreham Road.
