Aiken residents who want to voice their opinion the renovations at Smith-Hazel Recreation Center and Park have an opportunity to do so Saturday. The city will hold a meeting to discuss the renovations at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Smith-Hazel, City Manager Stuart Bedenbaugh said. The Newport News Fire Department released the name of the person who was killed Sunday in a house fire. The victim was 64-year-old Kenneth Vines. Two others in the home escaped the burning structure, according to a news release. Firefighters arrived at 4:22 a.m. and found heavy smoke billowing from the two-story home.
