Seniors warned of COVID-19 vaccine scam alert

NORWICH Older adults and all of those on Medicare are vulnerable to scams seeking to get their insurance information or personally identifiable information, according to a statement from Senior Resources.
“Medicare loses about $60 billion each year due to fraud, errors and abuse; according to the Administration for Community Living,” said Alison Dvorak, SMP Coordinator at Senior Resources.
Scammers use public health emergencies as opportunities for fraud schemes. Older adults are currently isolated and more at risk for these scams. Connecticut’s Senior Medicare Patrol Program helps Medicare beneficiaries prevent, detect and report suspected health care fraud and abuse.
Free radon test kits available in area towns

BRANFORD January is National Radon Action Month. The East Shore District Health Department is offering free radon air test kits to residents of Branford, East Haven and North Branford during the month of January.
Free radon test kits will be available on a “first come, first serve” basis. The department is only open to the public by appointment. To receive a kit, call 203-481-4233.
The kits are provided by the Connecticut Department of Public Health Radon Program. Supplies are limited. One kit per household is allowed.
According to a statement, the CDC estimates that more than 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the U.S. can be attributed to radon. MIDDLETOWN The Middletown Health Department is accepting applications for Public Health Block Grant funding for fiscal year 2021-22. Any non-profit social service, or health agency providing services for Middletown city residents is eligible to apply.
Applications can be obtained on the city’s website @ www.middletownct.gov and due no later than 4:30 p.m. March 1.
