Bursary Awards significantly higher after tough year for the art industry

Twenty-four artists from across the county have been awarded Bursary Awards totalling almost €320,000. The funding, granted by the Arts Council to more than 530 people in 27 counties, aims to help musicians, actors, writers, dancers, filmmakers, and visual and other artists to develop their art. The Arts Council said that, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, it had added significantly to the amount available in its second round of bursaries for 2020, and encouraged artists in every art form and area of arts practice to apply. In total, more than €7 million will be invested across the full range of areas. Among the local recipients is Liv L O Donoghue (dance), who will receive €15,000 while Alex Allison and Katherine Dunne, who work in the circus category, will receive €11,460 and €12,798 respectively. In the literature section, Sarah Carroll and Olivia Fitzsimons have both been awarded €10,000, while Audrey Magee and Lucy Sweeney Byrne will receive €20,000 each.
