Knox is holding a free concert this weekend showcasing sought-after jazz and Latin American influenced drummer and composer. The 2022 Winter Jazz Series is Saturday and will feature Chicago-based drummer and composer Gustavo Cortiñas. He is one of the most sought-out drummers in Chicago and has played with many popular bands and artists, such as the Carla Campopiano Trio and Kitt Lyles. This year's jazz series features Cortiñas' powerful multimedia project, Desafío Cadente, which takes the audience on a journey through Latin America and its history of colonialism, imperialism, and neoliberalism, and is inspired by Uruguayan poet Eduardo Galeano's book The Open Veins of Latin America. Following more than a decade-long musical career, Cortiñas has also accompanied and led ensembles on popular stages and festivals in North America, Latin America, Asia, and Europe.
