. good morning on this saturday, june 25th. we are so grateful to have you here. i m christi paul. look who s in town. atlanta. great to be with you here in person. i m happy to host you any time. i m boris sanchez. you re live in the cnn newsroom. demonstrators have taken to the streets following the supreme court decision to end the constitutional right to abortion, a moment that antiabortion activists have described as a victory decades in the making. we saw major protests in cities around the country. yesterday in phoenix, arizona, demonstrations got rowdy, people there banging on the glass doors of the state senate building. troopers used tear gas to disperse those crowds and authorities say a monument was also vandalized during this protest. in some states abortion became illegal as soon as the supreme court issued its ruling. we re talking about 13 states that have these trigger laws in place activated by the court s decision. we want to take you to two o
over the past week, we just saw these two state representatives reinstated all this issue of surrounding gun reform legislation. gloria we did see the governor earlier this week signed an executive order that would strengthen background checks. it s a step in the right direction. gun gun reform activists would say, do you think this is a sign of something that we could see potentially other? er. republican states do as well or do you think this is sort of an isolated issue? and perhaps sadly, because this governor had close family connections and friends who were victims to these, the mass shooting? well you know, after parkland if you ll recall in florida, ron desantis had a signed a red flag law. so perhaps, unfortunately, it s more likely when it hits home in your own state is that the governor is more likely to do something, although that hasn t happened in texas after you ve all day, for example, i think that for some
my question to you is, when we talk about this gun safety bill, is the potency of this issue enough to override some of the other issues republicans are going to cite such as the economy to get voters, particularly democratic voters to the polls? sure, it s a great question. for those voters, it certainly shows progress. even some of the most staunch gun reform activists have said a step forward is better than no steps forward at all. at the same time, as you point out, there s a lot more that is needed. and frankly, i think what happened in congress was undermined by what the supreme court did. and so that brings the issue back to the fore in the minds of voters. in november, for those voters for whom this is the mobilizing issue, who do you trust? this is true on both sides of the aisle, by the way. who do you trust? when it comes to gun safety
