Japan marks the 78th anniversary of the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima with its mayor using the occasion to urge the abolition of nuclear weapons. Hiroshima is in the spotlight again as Russia raises the spectre of using nuclear weapons in its war with Ukraine. At an outdoor memorial ceremony, Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui told the 50,000 participants that the Group of Seven leaders notion of nuclear deterrence was a "folly", a notion which Prime Minister Fumio Kishida agrees with.
