Greenville Public Schools projected budget cuts to cause nearly 20 layoffs

For the first time since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, Greenville Public Schools will be making significant cuts to its budget more than $2.7 million. During Monday’s meeting of the Board of Education, Superintendent Wayne Roedel and Finance Director Matt Andres presented the district’s proposed 2023-2024 fiscal year budget, which must be approved by the board before the start of the next fiscal year on July 1. ....

Ex-commissioner accuses current board of 'bullying' and holding 'secret meeting'

A former Montcalm County commissioner accused the current board on Monday of holding “a secret meeting” before turning down a request from the Commission on Aging director while “belittling and bullying” him. Kathy Bresnahan of Pine Township, who serves on the Commission on Aging Board, also referenced an email from Charles “Chuck” Hazekamp of Stanton, who also serves on the CoA Board. ....

Children's Corner grows from 20 to 500 students in 31 years

More than three decades ago, Jemery Palmer introduced a new concept to Greenville Public Schools that would end up flourishing beyond anyone’s imagination: Children’s Corner. What started as a “latchkey” innovative by Palmer introduced at the start of the 1991-1992 school year to help fill a void of childcare options in the community by offering before-and-after-school sessions beginning with only 20 students at Walnut Hills Elementary School has since grown into a prominent daycare program throughout the entire district with approximately 500 children enrolled and 35 staff members overseeing it. ....
