The day is early. We re trying to get a sense of things and where the damage is. 1. 1
City of houma, louisiana. Ida now considered one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the u. S. Wind of 150 miles per hour. That s like an f3 tornado hitting for hours. Now, on the left side of your screen, what s left? we know at least one person has died. But louisiana s governor says he expects the death toll to climb considerably in the coming hours. And we re getting reports of people trapped in attics and on roofs and the water is not done rising. A couple of people behind me have a lot of friends and family out there. I got a fairly decent sized boat. If i can get a couple people to ride with me, we ll get out there. No one has any cell phone service. It s just a waiting game. Before the clock in kabul struck midnight for august 31st was the last time that c17, a military plane, took off from kabul and headed back home. And he is confirming there that not a single u. S. Service member is left in afghanistan. However, he did note the heartbreak of this evacuation saying they did not get everyone out of afghanistan, out of kabul that they wanted to evacuate. But general mckenzie saying there he did not think if they had ten more days to continue evacuations that they still would ve been able to get everyone they wanted to get out of afghanistan. Still he did note the big numbers, the thousands of people that they were able to get out. He said about 6,000 americans were part of this evacuation that of course involved tens of thousands of thirdcountry nationals and afghan allies, of course other endangered afghans as part of this massive evacuation effort.
