The Granite Shoals Senior Citizens Group is hosting its first meetup of 2021 at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, in the Granite Shoals Community Center, 1208 N. Phillips Ranch Road.
Organizers plan to hold meetups from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Wednesday. The event includes a speaker, board games, lunch, and fellowship.

The Easter Bunny is returning to Granite Shoals for an Easter egg hunt from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Quarry Park, 2221 N. Phillips Ranch Road.
The event is free and for children of all ages, said Sgt. John Ortis, president of the Granite Shoals Police Officer’s Association, which is sponsoring the event.

Highland Lakes residents and restaurants donated meals to area first responders so they could focus on the countless calls during the storm.
“Having those meals was a huge benefit,” said Marble Falls Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Russell Sander. “With (area grocery stores) and many restaurants closed, we had no way to get food. It kept us fed to provide services to our citizens.”

The city of Granite now has more “teeth” in getting residents to clean up creekbeds on their property.
The City Council approved a drainage maintenance ordinance during its Tuesday, Dec. 15, regular meeting. The ordinance allows the city to contact residents about cleaning creekbeds on private property. If a property owner does not comply, the ordinance gives city employees permission to go onto the property to clean the creekbed and then pass the cost to the property owner.
