Only 3.4 lakh of 13.35 lakh persons aged above 45 get their first dose in East Godavari
The East Godavari authorities have come up with a ‘token system’ to ensure that the most vulnerable section in the district gets priority in administration of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Under the system, a token is issued a day in advance to a beneficiary fixing the time and the centre to get the jab.
The district has recently received 40,000 doses of Covishield vaccine.

The East Godavari district authorities have decided to cancel the permission given to some private hospitals to treat COVID-19 cases for alleged commercial exploitation of the medical oxygen and Remdesivir injections being supplied by the State government.
In a joint press conference on Thursday, Collector D. Muralidhar Reddy said, “The audit done on the use of medical oxygen and Remdesivir injections in various private designated COVID-19 hospitals has unearthed violations of the COVID-19 protocol and creation of artificial scarcity of oxygen and Remdesvir. We will soon denotify those hospitals.”
Former MLA Chittabbai dies of cardiac arrest

YSRCP leader and two-time MLA from Amalapuram K. Chittabbai (71) died of cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kakinada in East Godavari district on Thursday.
A native of Amalapuram town, Mr. Chittabbai was elected to the Assembly as Independent candidate in 2004.
“Mr. Chittabbai died of cardiac arrest. As per his medical reports, he did not suffer from COVID-19,” District Medical and Health Officer K.V.S. Gowreeswara Rao said.
Mr. Chittabbai had been associated with the YSRCP since its establishment. He had served as party district president during its formative years.
