The reforms are wildly unpopular among many greeks. In athens, demonstrations turned violent outside parliament. Cars and trucks were torched banks and a. T. M. s were vandalized as lawmakers voted to approve the plan. We are live in athens. Parliament passed the measure but seems no one is really happy about it. It was a landslide vote, but nobody is happy. This is all part of a push to reform the entire criminal justice system. Jonathan martin joining us with more. We expect him to visit in just a couple of hours. Its all a part of the president s campaign to overhaul that system as you mentioned, and he has taken other steps this week as well. The visit to an oklahoma federal prison comes days after he pardoned 46 prisoners serving long sentences for nonviolent crimes. Our nations being robbed of men and women who could be workers and taxpayers, could be more actively involved in their childrens lives, could be role models, could be community leaders. [ applause ] and right now they are locked up for a nonviolent offense. Reporter the president wants reduced sentences for nonviolent crimes and job training in prisons. Half of the 1300 inmates here

Details are a bit sketchy, but were hearing reports of shots fired at a Naval Reserve center. The mayor confirmed that a policeman was hit. The mall is on lockdown and a hospital is on shut down. The mayor referred to it as and witnesses are describing something driving a ford must taken who are firing shots at the Naval Reserve center.
