Alabama Power Service Organization members gather virtually for annual convention

Alabama Power Service Organization members gather virtually for annual convention By Michael Sznajderman March 8, 2021 The Alabama Power Service Organization recently held a virtual annual convention, marking the organization s 30th year. (contributed) Members of the Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) on March 4 celebrated 30 years of volunteerism and meeting the challenge of serving communities during the pandemic at the organization’s first-ever virtual annual convention. The 45-minute gathering was available for viewing by more than 6,000 member-employees via digital technology. Zeke Smith, Alabama Power executive vice president for External Affairs, kicked off the convention by congratulating members on their dedicated service to communities across the state. The event was held exactly 30 years after APSO organizers held their first meeting in 1991. That inaugural year, about 300 employees and family members participated in the fledgling organization.

Vietnam Veterans Share Holiday Cheer in Northern Virginia

Vietnam Veterans of America Inc. Chapter 227 of Northern Virginia fulfilled their founding principle, “Never Again Will One Generation of Veterans Abandon Another,” by providing Holiday Cheer to military veterans, active duty personnel, and homeless families in several ways. For the eleventh consecutive year, the Chapter provided gift cards in value from $75 for a single veteran to $225 for a married veteran with children for the Holidays. This year’s amount of $6,675 benefited 56 veterans and their families, an increase of 13 recipients from last year. Despite the higher number, a $25 increase for each assistance category was approved. The recipients are in the Veterans Administration Supportive Housing program for veterans and their families to assist in their transition from homelessness.
