Matthijs Visch will be the new CEO of department store chain de Bijenkorf. He will be taking over from Giovanni Colauto on Friday, who has been the highest executive of the retail company since 2012. Visch had been a director for the European activities of the outdoor clothing brand Patagonia for the last two years. Before he started working at Patagonia, which often prides itself on sustainable ideals, he worked for Nike. One of his positions included being the general manager of the sporting brand in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Department store chain De Bijenkorf is cutting 64 jobs at its head office in Amsterdam. Last week, the chain announced it would cut 37 managerial jobs in its stores. The company said the reorganization is needed “given the challenging retail environment.” De Bijenkorf wants to save costs by working with fewer managers and merging several departments at its head office.

The Dutch department store chain Bijenkorf has finally launched its Austrian webshop. The launch was announced in early 2020 and was initially planned for the second half of that year, but that timing suffered some delays.
International strategy
The new webshop is art of the strategy of De Bijenkorf to enhance its international presences. This expansion to Austria is the logical next step after the succesful online rollout in Belgium, Germany and France , says CEO Giovanni Colauto.
Just like the existing webshops, the Austrian online store offers an exclusive product range in fashion, cosmetics, accessories, travel and home decoration from over 1,000 brands. These include, among many others, Alexander McQueen, Cartier, Charlotte Tilbury, Le Creuset, Gucci, Hugo Boss and Stone Island.
