Gillian slovo, welcome to hardtalk. Thank you. Gillian, you have been writing for many decades, but your recent work, particularly your plays, have focused not so much on your own authorial voice, your imagination, they focused on real peoples real stories. I just wonder if youre getting sick of making things up. Im not, actually, because, you know, theres part of me that wants to go back to my desk to be on my own, to make stuff up, but ive really got a lot from working in the theatre and from the collaboration that comes, not only from the crew and the directors and the actors, but actually the collaboration that comes from the people ive interviewed. And finding a way to magnify their voice onstage has been actually really a wonderful piece of work for me. Ive really learnt a lot about it, and it also teaches you about dialogue when you want to go back to drama, to writing fiction. I mean, your most recent play, which has been on in the uk and indeed on in new york as well, is all a

Applause and well always stand with israel and the threats against its security. Mr khan alleges there is evidence to suggest starvation has been used by the Prime Minister and his Defence Minister as a method of war against civilians. He also alleges israeli leaders killed wilfully, intentionally directing attacks against civilians. Mr netanyahu has described the allegations as absurd. In respect of hamas, the prosecutor alleges there is clear evidence they ordered mass murder, rape and the Inhumane Treatment of hostages. A panel of iccjudges must now decide whether they believe the evidence is sufficient to issue warrants, something which could take weeks or months. The bbc s Anna Holligan has more from the hague. In the south of baghdad. In iraq, a war of choice, the us expended enormous amounts of blood and treasure and ended up opening the door to wider iranian influence, while causing the American Public to reject a role as the worlds policeman. And for those who yearn for that moment, now we see the consequences. Instead of a monopolar world or a two sided rivalry, like the old cold war, we have one where several large states contest for economic and strategic advantage, and where chaos is increasingly widespread. In ukraine, independent since the soviet collapse, they face an existential struggle. Inter state war has returned to europe. Hundreds of thousands have been killed or wounded. Russia animated by nationalism, rather than communism gambled on western indifference and weakness. Well, we havent been here long, but were getting a good idea about the constant rockets and defensive fire from the israeli iron dome system. First, he is perhaps the best example we have had in the past 100 years of how political leaders, by force of personality, transform themselves from politicians into statesman can by their sheer personal effort change the world and make what was impossible possible and then deliver it. He is not the only one who has done so. We should not think of him as unique. Gor
