A Taste of Christmas in Lopinot
PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD: The Lopinot Country Style Community Tourism Group will host a public Christmas Market on Sunday 20th December 2015 at the Lopinot Historical House in Lopinot from 10am to 3pm.
This signature cultural event is part of Trinidad and Tobago’s thrust to promote immersive cultural experiences through community tourism. Christmas in Trinidad and Tobago is a unique celebration and visitors to the market will experience the sights, sounds and taste of a “true Trini Christmas.”
The event will showcase the many talents of entrepreneurial Lopinot villagers and will feature maypole dancing, market produce, food, music, craft, handmade chocolate from Lopinot’s cocoa plantations, fresh local seasonings and cocktails, including the award winning chocolate ponche de crème.

With overgrown vines and loquat trees blocking the building, it’s easy to miss the aging historic property at 313 NW Second St. in Trenton, though for many who enter it’s unforgettable.
The Old Gilchrist County Jail, in operation for 40 years during the 20th century, is up for sale. And in addition to visits from prospective buyers, ghosts of former inmates and others who died on the premises are said to haunt the property.
The eight-cell, eight-bath property comprises a little more than 2,000 square feet and also includes an attached jailer’s house, added in 1965. The asking price is $140,000.
Arlene Hale, who lives between Newberry and Trenton, has owned the property for about 12 years.
