Look at india. They are shooting up. Their share of emissions has gone from a relatively small part in asia to the majority of emissions in asia. Now, there is a reason for it. Faster economic growth means more use of energy, means more co2. Thats a pretty straight line that is very hard to break. But when you look at the amount of emissions from places like china relative to the Growth Rate of their economy, you do get a somewhat different picture. All countries have succeeded in becoming more energy efficient. Theyve succeeded in reducing the amount of energy and emissions per unit of gdp, relative to the Growth Rate of their economy. This black dotted line is the whole world. Down here, interestingly, you see the uk and Germany And China tied in terms of what theyve accomplished.
