BERLIN (AP) A former head of the Catholic German Bishops Conference is giving up the country's highest honor following scathing criticism this week of his handling of clergy abuse cases during his tenure as archbishop of Freiburg and as a personnel officer in the diocese.
Archbishop Robert Zollitsch, now 84, led the Archdiocese of Freiburg from 2003 to 2013 and was chairman of the German Episcopal Conference from 2008 to 2014.
The Diocese of Limburg has published a new brochure entitled, “Guidelines for competence in sex education in the pastoral care/areas of activity of the Church.” In these guidelines, Catholic views are abandoned and a new image of the human being and of sexuality is presented, which is oriented towards gender ideology.
