Santa Barbara County High Schools to Send Seniors Off with In-Person Graduations

Actual commencements resume after last year’s coronavirus cancellations  with public safety protocols, of course After last year’s drive-through and virtual commencement ceremonies, this year’s graduations will look a little more like that enjoyed by Lompoc High School’s Class of 2014 albeit with social distancing and reduced attendance. (Noozhawk file photo) By Brooke Holland, Noozhawk Staff Writer | @BT Holland | UPDATED 8:50 a.m. May 9, 2021 | 8:30 p.m. Many high school seniors in the Class of 2021 will be able to cross the stage to receive their hard-earned diplomas at in-person ceremonies in Santa Barbara County. However, some local schools are finalizing plans as of this week.

Carpinteria Cross Country Scrambles to Make Citrus Coast League Meet in Fillmore

By Barry Punzal, Noozhawk Sports Editor | @NoozhawkSports February 27, 2021 | 5:32 p.m. Kate Cooney of Carpinteria finished eighth in the Citrus Coast League cross country meet in Fillmore. (Courtesy photo) Carpinteria High received an 11th hour call that it was cleared to travel across the Ventura County line to participate in a Citrus Coast League cross country competition in Fillmore on Saturday. Athletic Director Pat Cooney was notified by the Ventura County Public Health Department Saturday morning,  and the Warriors scrambled to get to meet No. 2 at Fillmore Farm. The Warriors and Malibu couldn’t run at last week’s first meet in Ojai because the Ventura County Health Officer had not allowed out-of-county teams to cross the border for athletic competitions. The other league members, Fillmore, Santa Paula, Nordhoff and Hueneme, reside in Ventura County.
