ASO's virtual season ends on a Haydn note

ASO s virtual season ends on a Haydn note FacebookTwitterEmail Violinist Melissa WhiteProvided On Saturday night, the Albany Symphony will have its last concert of this very challenging season. “I m so proud that we have been able to present our concerts on the nights we originally promised,” said David Alan Miller, music director of the ASO. “We did them all virtually, obviously. But for every one of them, the orchestra has been together in the room.” The concert will feature Chicago-based violinist Melissa White, playing composer George Tsontakis’ Violin Concerto No. 2, which won him the Grawemeyer Award as well as the Charles Ives Living award. This is White’s first time playing with the ASO, and it s not her only first.

ASO presents an evening of beauty, hope and joy

ALBANY, N.Y. — On Saturday, the Albany Symphony Orchestra performs its final concert of what they termed “The Reimagined 2020-2021 Season.” Last spring, after cancelling the remaking concerts of the 2019-2020 season, they changed the entire announced season, for 2020-2021. They substituted works of smaller sized orchestras. They found ways to rehearse and perform in socially distant ways, while adhering to all safety protocols. The season looked more like chamber orchestra programming than a full-symphonic orchestra. - Advertisement - David Alan Miller, Music Director and conductor of the ASO believes it was a major accomplishment just to put on six concerts. That they were of high quality and greatly supported by his subscriber base and the public-at-large was an added bonus. “The challenge was in doing, and we did it.”
