MACON, Ga. Macon-Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says in the last week, his office has responded to three people found dead in homes.
He says with temperatures reaching almost triple digits this week, it s more important now than ever to check on your neighbors. Our elderly are our jewels to the community, says George Crawley, a longtime Macon resident.

MACON, Ga. Macon-Bibb County hosted a cleanup event on Saturday.
Last Friday, Macon Mayor Lester Miller announced a new plan to reduce illegal dumping in Macon.
In the programs first week, the county says they ve removed over 87,000 pounds of debris from illegal dumps and cleared over 100 cubic yards of waste.
The county hosts cleanups in different parts of the city.
Organizer of Saturday s event, George Crawley, says it takes a lot of community efforts to cleanup a city.
MACON, Ga. (AP) Middle Georgia's largest county is banning new pawn shops for six months, and is enacting limits on liquor stores that will ban new liquor stores indefinitely. Local news outlets report the Bibb County Commission voted unanimously to approve the moratoriums on Tuesday. Commissioners must vote again next week on the rules, which would begin Feb. 22. Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller proposed the bans when he took office.
