There is speculation that unofficial state Transnistria is poised to make an appeal to Putin to join Russia. The landlocked strip along the Dniester River is wedged between Moldova and Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Chisinau Marko Shevchenko said that in case of escalation in unrecognized Transnistria, Ukraine would provide Moldova with “all the necessary assistance” if requested, Deschide portal reported on Feb. 22.
Self-proclaimed government of Transnistria in Moldova is preparing a "congress of members of the parliament of all levels" of the so-called parliament of Transnistria, as well as of district, city and village councils, on 28 February.
