Gov. Newsom's CARE Court sparks debate over involuntary care, ethical concerns

Students and experts acknowledged both benefits of and ethical concerns with a new statewide mental health program. Under Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Community Assistance, Recovery and Empowerment Court program, people including family members and first responders will be able to petition those with severe mental health or substance use disorders into treatment, according to the California Health and Human Services Agency.
