It s been nearly 12 months since the Cornish Pirates last played a game at the Mennaye Field, but the wait is nearly over. On Saturday, Pirates will line up against Jersey Reds in a warm-up friendly fixture in preparation of the upcoming Championship season. In an interview on Facebook, joint head coach, Gavin Cattle, said: We expect it to be a bit disjointed, but for us it’s about getting that contact level up. It will be a big test in term of new combinations and stuff like that but the result is not something we’re really focussed on, we’re trying a few things and a few combinations.

Cornish Pirates announce two new signings

Bazalgette, 22, joins the Pirates after previously honing his skills with Exeter University RFC and Wimborne RFC. Inverness-born Harry has previously represented Dorset & Wiltshire under 20 s and proved himself to be a prolific scorer with the boot. Cornish Pirates joint head coach, Gavin Cattle, said: [He was] brought to our attention, looking at Harry play and then seeing him training we liked what we saw. He has a strong kicking game, leads by example and has good knowledge and game management for a young man. “Although not tested at Championship level, Harry undoubtedly shows considerable potential and is someone who will be exciting to work with.”

Cornish Pirates scrum half Alex Schwarz joins Wasps on loan

Alex Schwarz will be leaving the Cornish Pirates on a short-term loan deal to join Premiership side Wasps. The 27-year-old will supply some much-needed cover at scrum half with both Dan Robson and Will Porter away on international duty and with a hamstring issue respectively. Wasps head coach, Lee Blackett, said: “Alex is an experienced player, who will add a lot to our young scrum-half group for the next month or so. We look forward to welcoming him to the club. “We’d like to say a big thank you to Alan Paver, Gavin Cattle and everyone at Cornish Pirates for the allowing us to take a number of their players on loan over the past few weeks.
