Fairmont City Council shaken by possible resignation of freshman member Blair Montgomery

Montgomery FAIRMONT — The possible resignation of city councilman Blair Montgomery leaves Fairmont’s City Council with the responsibility to replace him within 30 days. “By charter, city council has to place someone in his seat within 30 days of the date of his resignation,” said Mayor Tom Mainella. “But his resignation is not official yet. It’s expected, but it’s not official.” Prior to being elected to city council in November 2020, Montgomery served on the Marion County Board of Education, for one term. According to School Board President Mary Jo Thomas, who served on the board of education with Montgomery, who has had a recent recurrence of health issues.

Community college offers COVID vaccination incentives for fall term

TWV FILE PHOTO FAIRMONT — With classrooms expected to be at full capacity this fall, Pierpont Community & Technical College is offering students, faculty and staff incentives to become fully vaccinated by Sept. 10. The moves comes as the college plans to open its campuses in-full for the fall 2021 and spring 2022 terms. Vaccines have proven to be extremely effective in the fight against COVID-19, Pierpont Interim President Anthony Hancock said. The safety of our students, faculty and staff is of the utmost importance, and we will follow state and national guidelines to ensure their health and wellbeing.
