Ralph W. Rutan COLUMBUS, INDIANA Ralph W. Rutan, 79, of Columbus, died at 2:12 am, December 28, 2020, date, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Ralph was born December 27, 1941 in Bartholomew County, the son of Ralph G. and Ruth Marie (Swango) Rutan. He married Katherine (Purtlebaugh) on November 22, 1960, she passed on July 13, 2019. Ralph worked for Marsh supermarket for 43 years before retiring. He loved to attend church and travel. To friends and family, he was lovingly known as the Bible Thumper and an avid guitar player. Ralph enjoyed keeping company with his faithful friend, his dog, Fred. Ralph will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ron W. Dutcher

Ron W. Dutcher COLUMBUS Ron W. Dutcher, 53, of Columbus, passed away unexpectedly at 7:21 p.m. Friday, December 24, 2020 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Ron was born December 29, 1966, in Bartholomew County, Indiana, the son of Willard J. and Marilyn Fodrea Dutcher. On May 19, 2011, he married Keri Robertson. Mr. Dutcher enjoyed collecting. He enjoyed a large collection of knives, swords and at one time, an extensive collection of Superman memorabilia. Ron also enjoyed woodworking. He will be remembered as a great cook that loved to experiment with new dishes. Baking was one of Ron’s specialties; including but not limited to, cookies, cakes, cobblers, snicker doodles and baloney crud. He took joy in singing with his family and was an excellent singer. His sense of humor and comedic approach to life will be missed by those that knew him.

Looking Back – December 14 2010 Despite temperatures in the 20s, a steady stream of cars drove through Garland Brook Cemetery to view hundreds of luminaries placed on graves by family members for the cemetery’s eighth annual “An Evening of Remembrance” observance. 1995 Sculptor Dale Chihuly visited Columbus and got his first look at his glass “Yellow Neon Chandelier” hanging in the two-story bay windows of Columbus Visitors Center. 1970 More than 6,000 people attended the school corporation’s annual Christmas carol sing at Memorial Gym.
