Melbourne to host World Recreational Fishing Conference 8 July 2021 MELBOURNE will host the 10th World Recreational Fishing Conference, scheduled for 2023. The winning bid for World Recreational Fishing Conference’s (WRFC) host city was announced last week at the Ninth WRFC in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Melbourne will host the event from February 19-23, 2023 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre while also being broadcast digitally around the world. The event is held every three years for researchers, recreational fishers, angling organisations and government to meet and exchange knowledge about hot topics in recreational fishing. Boat ramps high on minister’s agenda Picture: Yanni THE state government is being urged to hurry up its takeover of managing Mornington Peninsula’s boat launching ramps. It is believed the state of the boat ramps was high on the agenda during a recent meeting between Fishing and Boating Minister Melissa Horne and shire CEO John Baker. In the lead-up to the 2018 election the state government promised to “embark on the biggest reforms to the way that boating infrastructure is managed that Victoria has ever seen [by] fixing boat ramps, abolishing boat ramp parking and launching fees, and reforming boat ramp management in Port Phillip and Western Port”. ....

Reciprocal licences for Lake Hume 14 January 2021 Image: Victorian Fisheries Authority VICTORIA is taking the first steps toward reciprocal licences along the border with New South Wales, with a 12-month trial at Lake Hume. From 1 January 2021, recreational fishers who hold a NSW fishing licence will not require a Victorian fishing licence to wet a line at Lake Hume, which is managed as a solely Victorian fishery. It is hoped that in return, NSW will accept a Victorian fishing licence for Lake Mulwala and eventually the entire Murray River. People fishing in Lake Hume need a Victorian fishing licence, while people fishing Lake Mulwala, further downstream, require a NSW fishing licence. ....
