The City of Fredericton is taking its first steps toward amending its municipal plan and zoning bylaw in order to reduce the hurdles homeowners must clear to create an accessory dwelling unit.
Fredericton Mayor Kate Rogers is proposing the creation of a new "design guide committee" to preserve the look and feel of the city's neighbourhoods amid expected zoning changes that will allow more densification.
Fredericton city staff are working on new zoning rules that would allow apartment units to be built in parts of the city traditionally reserved for commercial use, such as around Prospect Street, St. Mary's Street and Bishop Drive, all away from the downtown.
