Incoming elected officials urged the community to continue the strength, perseverance and unity it displayed following the October shooting to move the city forward.
The fields at the Franklin Pasture Complex will likely close to the public starting Oct. 19, but the City Council approved a new position Tuesday that will handle rental scheduling, volunteer programs, and community outreach.
City and school staff members, as well as a separate, resident-led effort, are trying to pull together programs that would oversee the artificial turf fields in Lewiston and keep them open to the public.
