Woman, subject of extensive search, survives night in Peru State Forest

WORTHINGTON A 53-year-old woman and her canine companion both made it safely back to their Worthington home early Saturday morning after state and local police and town firefighters led an extensive overnight search in the Peru State Forest.
State police reported that the search began at 9:30 p.m. Friday after the woman had entered the forest from River Road around 6:15 p.m. and didn’t return.
Patrols from the state police Russell barracks conducted an initial search of the area but could not find the woman or dog. That prompted state police to deploy K-9 teams and the Special Emergency Response Team, a specialized search and rescue unit, to assist in looking for her, along with State Police Air Wing, the Franklin/Hampshire County State Police Detective Unit and Worthington police officers and firefighters.
