The Washington Capitals will be in the Stanley Cup playoffs. That hasn t really been a question for some time. But in the ultra-competitive East Division, playoff placement is very much in question.
The Capitals (32-14-5, 69 points) visit the New York Rangers Monday night sitting in second place, two points behind Pittsburgh after dropping two straight to the Penguins. The top four teams make the playoffs; they are separated by just five points and fourth-place Boston has the most games (six) remaining.
Washington needs to rack up points over their next four games (two each against the fifth-place Rangers and sixth-place Flyers) before its season finale against Boston. Home-ice advantage over at least the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is up for grabs.
