Dec 14, 2020 CORTLAND A Cortland man accused of sexually abusing a girl from the time she was 9 years old until she turned 18 was in court last week trying to have parts of an interview he had with a police detective kept away from potential jurors. Floyd Ruiter, 65, 176 Gates St., Cortland, is charged in a 16-count indictment, including three counts of child rape that carries a potential life sentence. The sexual abuse took place over a decade ago, and the victim is now 29, prosecutors say. Ruiter and his attorney, Desirae DiPiero, appeared Friday before Common Pleas Court Judge Peter J. Kontos for a hearing to suppress evidence. ....
