Challenge former president trump head on? peter, ron desantis has to go at donald trump for a very specific reason. the 20 plus percentage that ron desantis has held among republican voters has stayed steady for a year. there s been some pops here and there. what it has indicated is that desantis might be the ceiling. he is yet to take a loyal trump voter away. he has taken a 2016 voter who says, i m just tired of donald trump, he is a good guy, i like him but i want somebody else. that same voter in 2020 wants somebody else. desantis has been a successful governor in republican eyes. ron desantis is yet to demonstrate he can take a voter from donald trump. which is why chris christie and youngkin and others are getting in. not because of the weakness of donald trump but because of the weakness of ron desantis. i think chris christie, i agree with kornacki, the viability will not be there at a candidate, but he will have a role to play in the primary.
