The North Dakota Department of Agriculture is trying to prevent its spread into the region by implementing state versions of transportation regulations the USDA removed. Transport regulations remain in North Dakota to prevent spread of emerald ash borer. The North Dakota Department of Agriculture wants to protect the state’s ash trees from the emerald ash borer. In December, the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service published in the Federal Register a final rule that removed the federal domestic EAB quarantine regulations, effective Jan. 14. However, North Dakota Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring says his department will enact its own regulations to prevent this invasive pest from getting into the state.
