Independence Day in Kitsap: A Coast Guard search, brush fires and more

View Comments A Coast Guard search was set off late Sunday night in Dyes Inlet after authorities received reports of flare sightings in the vicinity of Lions Park in East Bremerton, a popular spot for shooting off Fourth of July fireworks. A Coast Guard helicopter arrived in the area at about 12:30 a.m. Monday to search the water, Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Steve Strohmaier said. A law enforcement officer on the Warren Avenue Bridge aiding in the search saw many vessels on the water below but no signs of distress, he said. At about 5 a.m. a Coast Guard vessel from Seattle conducted a first light search, and that search was suspended at around 7 a.m. with negative results and no signs of distress in the area, Strohmaier said.
