Memorial Day West Boylston Westboro Sterling Southbridge Shrewsbury Rutland

Auburn   Saturday: At noon, the American Legion Post and the Chester P. Tuttle Post 279, escorted by the Auburn Police Department., will conduct a salute at all 13 veterans squares in town, starting with the first salute and wreath placement at Tuttle Square.  894 flags were put in the cemeteries on all of the grave markers for their fallen veterans. There will be no parade and events on Sunday and Monday, said Town Manager Julie Jacobson.  “The parade and other events had been cancelled due to COVID restrictions, so even with the changes announced last week by the state, it was too late to plan any additional events,” Jacobson said.

Two workers hurt in chemical spill at Cytiva in Westboro

Two workers hurt in chemical spill at Cytiva in Westboro WESTBORO - Two employees of Cytiva were injured Thursday morning as a result of 200 gallons of combustible liquid that spilled at the facility at 14 Walkup Drive. One person suffered chemical burn injuries that were considered non life-threatening, and the other was hurt in a fall while evacuating the area, Fire Chief Patrick Purcell said. Firefighters responded to the building after the Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call just before 7 a.m. The Fire Department contacted a state hazardous materials team to help, and the chemical was determined to be a combustible liquid, Purcell said.
