You had an outfit called faz, f a z, which was working with the state security secret service agents to intimidate people. they set out a plan to put desks next to polling stations, they would take down the names of the rural folk who were going in to vote and take their id numbers and tell them, we will know who you voted for because we have taken down your details. so that was another form of rigging that was taking place. and then you had a situation where prior to the election day itself, the opposition was not allowed to hold all of its rallies. they were denied over 100 times, each time they wanted to have a rally, using a draconian law which says that everyone who wants to congregate or assemble, they have to get permission from the police.
