Nature, a sense of community and a people-sized city – these are the wishes Espoo residents have for urban planning

A recent report presents the results of the Our Espoo 20X0 event series, summarising what the residents want from the future of Espoo and its major districts. The results will be used in projects such as the preparation of the Espoo Master Plan for 2060. The Our Espoo 20X0 event series invited the city residents to share their opinion on for who, how and on what terms Espoo should be built further.

Sello expansion kicks off modernisation of central Leppävaara

The first phase of developing the centre of Leppävaara will start with an expansion of Sello Shopping Centre and a new carpark that a local detailed plan allows for. The complex will bring new services to the Leppävaara district. The bus terminal in Leppävaaranaukio Square south of the railway will be covered once the third-largest shopping centre in Finland expands over the terminal.

Espoo aiming for sustainable land use by 2060

The population of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area is growing rapidly, and a significant part of the growth pressure is falling on Espoo. The City is now launching a master planning process to agree on the direction and boundary conditions for this growth. The first step is to set objectives for the plan. The master plan anticipates and guides the development of the city. “We need this master plan to guide the city’s development in the long term,” says Olli Isotalo, Deputy Mayor for Urban Environment.
