February marked busy month in EL | News, Sports, Jobs

EAST LIVERPOOL February was a busy month, according to Mayor Greg Bricker. In addition to all the snow and ice removal and repairs to city infrastructure by city employees, there was a lot of work done that residents didn’t see. During his report at Monday’s regular council meeting, Mayor Bricker also explained that his office has been busy, submitting projects for the state budget. In addition to the wellness center and trails, the city also is working on a transportation initiative and hoping to get $150,000 for blight removal and rehabilitation of housing within the city. “We hope to get that project off the ground by next month,” he continued. “We have no shortage of problems when it comes to our housing.”

According to the Columbiana County Board of Elections, candidates who have filed petitions to run for the May primary are incumbent John Mercer, of 311 W. Sixth St., and Robert Nizer Jr., of 235 Pennsylvania Ave. for council at-large (three seats) and C. Fred Rayl, 653 Bradshaw Ave.,second ward. Scott Barrett, of 840 Grandview Avenue, has filed as an independent for East Liverpool fourth ward council; however, independent candidates won’t be certified until after the May election and are placed directly on the November general election ballot.

No charges in rental property water breach | News, Sports, Jobs

sujhelyi@reviewonline.com This is a copy of the notice posted by former East Liverpool housing inspector Bob Smith on Nov. 19. (Photo by Stephanie Ujhelyi) EAST LIVERPOOL City police have released a report into allegations that a city councilman bypassed a water meter to gain free municipal water in one of his rental properties for the last several years. Detective Captain Darin Morgan said there was insufficient evidence regarding who installed the straight pipe thus bypassing the disconnected meter in his two-page report that was released Friday. The report did not name a party since nobody was charged. But the address in question is 746 St. Clair Ave. which is currently listed as belonging to Thomas E. Dennis Jr. and Dawnyelle E. Dennis. They acquired the property in October.
