Police in turkey are hunting for a gunman who opened fire at a nightclub packed with new year revellers, killing at least 39 people. Funerals have been held for some of the victims. Another 69 people were wounded four of them critically in what the istanbul governor described as a terrorist attack. The attacker left his gun before escaping. The shooting marks a bloody end to a year which saw ankara and istanbul targeted by attacks carried out by the so called Islamic State group, and separately, kurdish rebels.
