The government is investing more than £55m in expanding facial recognition systems – including vans that will scan crowded high streets – as part of a renewed crackdown on shoplifting. The scheme was announced alongside plans for tougher punishments for serial or abusive shoplifters in England and Wales, including being forced to wear a tag to ensure they do not revisit the scene of their crime, under a new standalone criminal offence of assaulting a retail worker. – Guardian
EIGHT local charities have received donations from EnQuest on behalf of the owners of Sullom Voe Terminal (SVT). Two charities, Shetland Women’s Aid and NHS Endowment Macmillan/Oncology received £1,000 donations. CLAN Cancer Support were awarded £600, as were Ability.
THE UK Government has pledged funding towards a study into the creation of a green hydrogen plant at Sullom Voe Terminal (SVT). The study is for a 50MW plant, but it would have potential expansion to 300MW over phases. The funding is going to Veri Energy, a subsidiary of SVT.
Exploration and production company Enquest said on Thursday that it had delivered "another good year of operational performance" in 2023, with production averaging 43,812 barrels of oil equivalent per day, in line with the mid-point of guidance.
EnQuest’s latest plans for Sullom Voe Terminal, revealed this week, appear to confirm suspicions that one of the main reasons behind the plans for a battery park at Gremista is to ensure continuity of power supply to the terminal. It wouldn't take that long to fire up Lerwick.
