Premier should intervene after promising renewable energy jobs bonanza
Workers set to lose as Barnett washes his hands of jobs
Premier Peter Gutwein has refused calls to save jobs at Hydro Tasmania after the company revealed it was gearing up to sack five per cent of its work force.
Shadow Minister for Energy David O’Byrne said the Premier had turned his back on Tasmanians who were set to lose their jobs.
“Premier Peter Gutwein and Minister for Energy Guy Barnett continue to duck for cover when Tasmanian jobs are on the line,” Mr O’Byrne said.

Government must intervene to save jobs
Premier, Peter Gutwein, cannot continue his selective, hands off approach and must explain to Tasmanians his true agenda for Hydro Tasmania.
Shadow Minister for Energy David O’Byrne said the Premier must intervene to stop the job losses at Hydro, which are at complete odds with his promise to create jobs in renewable energy.
“The Premier and Minister for Energy Guy Barnett have promised a renewable energy jobs bonanza,” Mr O’Byrne said.
“However, what we are seeing is significant number of job losses.
“Guy Barnett has gone into hiding so it is up to the Premier to intervene and save jobs in Hydro Tasmania and the other energy businesses. Will he categorically rule out more job cuts and privatisation?”

Slashing workforce is a massive betrayal by Liberals
Energy Minister must explain the decision
The Liberal Government and Minister for Energy Guy Barnett must explain why Hydro is slashing five percent of its workforce in a major betrayal of its promise to make Tasmania an international renewables leader.
Shadow Energy Minister David O’Byrne said the Liberals had promised a jobs bonanza with a renewable strategy but the first act of Hydro’s new CEO was to instead cut jobs.
“This is an absolute betrayal of the renewable energy promise by Guy Barnett,” Mr O’Byrne said.
“At a time when they are telling the world we are the centre of renewable energy expertise and the government is promising thousands of jobs, the first act of the new hand-picked CEO is to cut five per cent of the workforce.
