White paper plays up net zero heat potential of 'mine energy' - Heating and Ventilation News

Heating and Ventilation News Report says expansion of infrastructure to extract energy from water held and warmed in UK mines could play a significant role to power heat pumps and district heat systems Authorities in the UK should step up support for using energy derived from mine sites across the UK as a source of low carbon heat, according to a new industry-backed white paper. Findings jointly published by the Mine Energy Taskforce and the government-funded ‘energy hubs’ investment project have called for the scaling-up of work to extract geothermal-heated water from mines to support the UK’s net zero ambitions.

Government accused of 'Soviet-style planning' in proposed new rules for boiler firms

EUA criticises proposal that would see obligation for manufacturers to offer low carbon alternatives alongside boilers and penalties for non-compliance Boiler manufacturers have warned the government that its plans for the mass rollout of heat pumps to UK homeowners is like something from the Soviet era, in that it takes no account of market demand. The Energy and Utilities Alliance revealed that the government business department BEIS briefed the heat pump industry last week that it plans to put a legal obligation on boiler manufacturers to make alternative products. If manufacturers fail to sell the required levels of alternative products the company will be penalised, officials told the industry representatives.
