Boiler manufacturers have warned the government that its plans for the mass rollout of heat pumps to UK homeowners is like something from the Soviet era, in that it takes no account of market demand.
The Energy and Utilities Alliance revealed that the government business department BEIS briefed the heat pump industry last week that it plans to put a legal obligation on boiler manufacturers to make alternative products. If manufacturers fail to sell the required levels of alternative products the company will be penalised, officials told the industry representatives.
