and in space, the crew of shuttle endeavour is preparing to return to earth tomorrow. the crew completed four space walks and maintenance upgrades as part of its final mission. the return from the international space station to the kennedy space center in florida will heart attack the end of endeavor s 19-year career. after the break, we ll tell you about a man who set out to help a friend in need of a prosthetic hand, and wound up creating what some call one of the most incredible inventions of the year. wait until you see this. keep it here.
james and dwyane wade s superstar friendship on and off the court. spotlight will be on those two, three of them. got to put chris bosh in with those two. first, history in the making. space shuttle endeavour a day away from touching down for last time. endeavor s final journey home marks the end of a 19-year run, the commander has reason to be excited about getting back to earth. we talked to him overnight. and gina sunseri has the buzz from kennedy space center. reporter: commander mark kelly is clearly happy to be on his way home for a reunion with his wife, congresswoman gabrielle giffords. he and his crew spoke with abc news bob woodruff. it was nice to call her each day, after flight day four she had her surgery a couple of days after we launched. that went well. it was nice to talk to her. haven t been able to since we undocked. but i will i will shortly after i land.
so i am really, really looking forward to seeing her. reporter: celebrating records set in space. 380 days for astronaut mike fincke. well the russians have had people in space for, up to, you know, 800 days in their career. i got a long way to go. reporter: bittersweet however, about endeavor s final flight which finished the u.s. part of the international space station. when you can see the earth below and you are holding on to a piece of the structure up high above the space station, to see the horizon out there with all the hardware beneath you and understand what we have done as a nation and a world to build that international space station it is spectacular. reporter: explaining why ams, the cosmic ray detector they installed, is important. understanding what the universe is, the universe we live in, how it got here, how it was formed, these are fundamental questions. and this is what ams is going to be trying to understand for us. reporter: endeavor will clock
